This is a guide only and not an officially endorsed procedure and may invalidate your warranty. I will not be responsible for any damage using this method of attaching the drive. The correct method is to use the correct hard drive kit as supplied by Ketron.

1) you will need to take out the 'disk drive interface PCB'
2) SD5_1 shows the metalwork under it. there are three set screws holding the metalwork in place.
3) fit four rubber grommets into the four holes (see SD5_1)
4) You will need some PCB spacers cut slightly smaller than the grommets (so the grommets don't get crushed when you tighten the screws.)

5) Fit the spacers inside the grommets, except the one shown in SD5_2.jpg photo (top left). That is because componants are too close to that hole and will be damaged by a screwhead.
6) Fit the cable to the hard disk and attach to the metalwork using three screws and washers. I used thread lock and some glue to make sure they do not vibrate loose.

7) Refit the metalwork and PCB making sure you have the drive cable the right way around and that the setscrew heads do not touch any componants on the PCB underneath.

Darren,

I take it that the PCB fits onto those raise hank bushes. When the pcb goes back on is there plenty of clearance between the metal parts of the HD and the protruding tracks parts under the PCB.
Darren, what's the empty space for to the left of the PCB, couldn't the hd go there, you know best you have seen one in bits, I am only guessing at all this.

There is plenty of clearance between the hdd and the disk interface PCB which sits on the hex posts rather than the smaller hank bushes; That is where the official kit is attached. On the Ketron Kit, the hard drive fits to a metal plate. Fibre washers insulate the drive from the plate, and then the plate is attached to the four hank bushes (you can see them clearly to the left and right hand side of the hard drive in SD5_3.jpg)

The reason for choosing that position is because Ketron have kindly attached 4 holes in exactly the right position to attach the hard drive to. That also means the cable is correctly positioned.

If I had tried to fit the drive left of the disk controller PCB I would have neaded to drill holes and had a longer cable made...I went for the easy option.

OK Darren,

I didn't see holes that they had drill, that's why I asked if you had to drill the holes yourself - then I suppose it would have been different.

Thanks for helping Hannes out.

Regards

Tony

Yes I agree Darren, nice to help people but nice to have some feedback, but perhaps he's that busy loading stuff onto the HD that won't take long before it's full, he will be back.

Thanks again Darren, good photos always help, we will have to write a book, the "HAYES AUDYA MANUAL" it will be sacrificial, give it away, you like that word Darren don’t you!

I will say Thanks for Hannes

Regards
